Originally, Scottsdale was a Pima village (Va?ai S-va?on?), whose name translates to “rotting hay. Some Pima people even remain there today. Until the late ’60s, a traditional dwelling remained on the southeast side of Indian Bend Road and Hayden Road. However, The Pima people in Scottsdale now live in modern houses, not traditional dwellings.
