Vancouver is where you can find the largest Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, and queer (2SLGBTQ+) community in all of Western Canada. This community has a significant presence around town, with LGBTQ+ neighborhoods on Davie Street in the West End and Commercial Drive in Grandview.
Every year, the Mayor declares the last week of July into the first week of August as Pride Week as a way to celebrate and support this thriving community.

Mental Health in Vancouver, BC
About 84,000 children and youth in BC have been diagnosed with a mental disorder. However, fewer than one-third of those children seek help or are receiving mental health treatment and services. In other words, as many as 58,000 children in BC are not receiving the treatment they require for their mental health conditions.
In addition, approximately 68,000 youth between the ages of 15 and 24 have a substance use disorder, yet all of BC only has 24 publicly funded treatment beds that serve youth.

History/Data
The city of Vancouver was incorporated in 1886 before it became the western terminus for the first trans-Canada railway: the Canadian Pacific. The town was renamed to celebrate the English navigator George Vancouver of the Royal Navy. This explorer had surveyed the coast in 1792.
The city of Vancouver is found on the traditional territories of three Local First Nations: the Squamish, Musqueam,, and Tsleil-Waututh.
In 2021, the population of Vancouver was 2,606,000 people, an increase of 0.97%.
