Past generations of LGBTQ+ members in the Moncton community used to have safe places they could go, like relied on the former nightclub, Triangles. Unfortunately, this establishment was the city’s only gay bar and shut down in 2018. However, Moncton has a thriving LGBTQ+ community, with people seeking out stronger laws to protect the LGBTQ+ community.

Mental Health in Moncton, New Brunswick
Students in grades 6 to 12 have been showing more symptoms of anxiety and depression than years prior, according to a survey conducted by the New Brunswick Health Council.
In addition, The New Brunswick Student Wellness survey taken from 2018 to 2019 found an eight percentage point increase in anxiety and depression since the survey was last taken in 2015 to 2016.
Lastly, forty-eight percent of students that were surveyed in 2018 to 2019 said that they experienced anxiety and depression, an increase from 40 percent three years before.

History/Data
The official founding of Moncton took place in 1766. This took place when Pennsylvania Germans immigrants came from Philadelphia. However, this city was not incorporated until 1855.
Moncton is on the land on the traditional unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) and Mi’kmaq Peoples.
In 2021, it was determined that Moncton has a population of about 140,000 residents.
