Salzburg has a very active and vibrant LGBTQ+ community with various events.
For example, The Homosexual Initiative Salzburg (HOSI) puts on the most prominent gay clubbing event in the area. In addition, Salzburg Pride is a popular event, with highlights like The Pride Boat on Wolfgangsee. There’s also the Lange Nacht der Vielfalt (long night of diversity), hosted in various locations throughout the city.
Salzburg is also very welcoming to visitors of all identities. Many hotels are inclusive of LGBTQ+ guests, as well as other establishments.
Mental Health in Salzburg, Austria
According to a recent study conducted by MedUni Vienna’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in collaboration with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute Health Promotion Research, 23.93% of all youth in Austria are currently experiencing a mental health problem, with over a third of them having a mental health issue at some point in their lives.
The findings from this survey also concluded that fewer than half of those young people who had suffered from a mental health issue had received professional help from a psychiatrist specializing in treating children and youth. In addition, about 63% of the surveyed adolescents with ADHD had seen a specialist, nearly 20% for eating disorders and even less for suicidal behavior disorders (16.7%) and non-suicidal and self-harm behavior (10.0%).
