Mental Health in Leipzig, Germany
A new study of patient data from DAK, a German health insurance provider, found that one in four children in Germany have been diagnosed or are experiencing mental illness. This survey was based on data collected from 800,000 children DAK-insured in 2016 and 2017.
According to this survey, 238,000 children are suffering from these conditions. In addition, the rate of child depression went up by 5% in 2017 from the year before.

History/Data
Leipzig’s history dates back to an ad in 1015 as the fortified town of Urbs Libzi. It was then permitted to have municipal status by 1170. Since it was in such an ideal position of being in the middle of a plain converged by the primary trade routes of central Europe, the town quickly developed commercially.
In 2021, Leipzig had a population of 605,407 inhabitants, making it bigger than the Saxon capital of Dresden. In addition, it is Germany’s eighth most populous city and the second-most populous city in the region of former East Germany, following Berlin.
