Boulder is a city found at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the north of Colorado. To the west, you can find the trail-lined Flatirons that overlook the city. Downtown, you can visit Pearl Street Mall, which has art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. The University of Colorado Boulder campus is another popular attraction, with the Fiske Planetarium and the Museum of Natural History, that feature zoology and anthropology exhibits.
Bicycling is so prevalent in Boulder that sometimes the city plows the Boulder Creek bike path before plowing the streets.
Baseline Road is a popular east-west route to cartographers, as it marks the 40th parallel on world maps.
Boulder’s Third Flatiron is 1,400 feet high, even a bit taller than the Empire State Building.
Boulder was declared the Happiest City in the U.S. by National Geographic. In addition, according to a Gallup study, the city has a repeated rating as the United States’ best city for wellbeing.
The first settlement in Boulder was established at Red Rocks. This area is now known as The Peoples’ Crossing and used to be called “Settlers Park”) by gold-seekers in 1858. One of the settlers, named A.A. Brookfield, organized the Boulder City Town Company in 1859, which is when Boulder City started to thrive.
In 2019, it was reported that the population of Boulder was 106,392 residents.

In 2005, Boulder was recognized in the book 50 Fabulous Gay-friendly Places to Live. Boulder continues to be an LGBTQ+ friendly place to live and visit, and city leaders believe that diversity is an asset. As a result, the city of Boulder continually strives to develop policies, programs, and services that serve and embrace the LGBTQ+ communities.
For children ages, 1 to 14, 20% of parents reported behavioral or mental health problems. In addition, 12% of parents said that children older than two years old had received mental health treatment or counseling over the past year.
12% of parents said that their child had development, behavioral problems, and needed counseling. Finally, for providers screening for developmental, communication, and behavior issues came in at 35%.
Regarding bullying, 45% occurred on school property, 22% over electronics, and 17% experienced bullying due to perceived sexual orientation.
23% of kids in the 7th and 8th grades reported feeling sad or hopeless in the past two weeks. In addition, 5% attempted suicide, and 17% seriously considered suicide.
Even though Boulder was ranked as a happy city and is known as one of the best cities for well-being, many people still struggle with their mental health.
