In 1858, no one was living in the Denver metro area at all. Now, Denver has a population of nearly 200,000 residents. According to a study from Denver Public Health, one in eight people living in Denver is depressed at any given time. This study used electronic medical records and surveys to evaluate the mental health status of Denver.
Dr. Bill Burman, the Director at Denver Public Health, stated, “It’s common. It’s serious. It affects people throughout their lifespan.”
In addition, the study discovered that three in 10 students at Denver schools feel “persistently sad and hopeless” for more than a couple of weeks at a time during the year. Results also indicated that one in four pregnant women and femmes who had a medical appointment at Denver Health had reported being depressed.
