El Paso is a city found in Texas, in the county seat of El Paso County. It is located in the far west of this state and is referred to as “Sun City” due to having 302 days of sun every year. The site, now known as El Paso, was first acknowledged in 1598 by Juan de Oñate, a colonizer from New Mexico, who referred to the destination as El Paso del Norte (Spanish for “The Pass of the North”).
Franciscans established the area when the Mission Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe was in 1659. Currently, the original church resides in the central square of Juárez.
In addition, Spanish survivors of the Pueblo Revolt from 1680 to 1692 settled there and constructed other missions close by, like the one at Ysleta, making El Paso the oldest town in Texas.
