Mental Health in Burlington, Vermont
A recent survey determined that Vermont youth had significantly increased mental health issues since the pandemic began.
The data in the survey from The Vermont Youth Project was taken in October 2020 in Richford, Enosburg, Swanton, Rutland, and Fair Haven. Respondents were in the seventh to 12th grades with a 65% participation rate.
Here are some mental health statistics regarding youth in Burlington:
- Approximately 70% of youth reported that the pandemic worsened their anxiety, mood, or loneliness “a little” or “a lot” worse.
- 38% of young people said that they felt challenges were so extreme that they sometimes could not overcome them over the past month.
- 45.5% of high schoolers say the pandemic has harmed their mental health.
- 47% of high schoolers said that the pandemic worsened their school connections.
- 57% of 11th and 12th graders felt the pandemic harmed their educational experience.
- 52% of 11th and 12th graders reported feeling lonelier due to the pandemic, and 48% felt more anxious.
- 35% of youth had trouble with sleep.
