Fourteen years ago I took a course called “Queer and Pleasant Danger” and read the memoir of a trans woman that sparked my interest in gender and sexuality. I dedicated my undergraduate time to studying the intersection of psychology, queer theory, and theatre. After working in the field at McLean Hospital and as a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, I attended Boston University’s School of Social Work (BUSSW) where I obtained a Masters in Social Work as an Urban Practice Scholar. While at BUSSW, I tailored my coursework to focus on the treatment of trauma and clinical work with transgender people. I conducted an independent study on working with intimate partner relationships where one partner transitions, the results of which I went on to present at the National Association of Social Work Massachusetts (NASW-MA) Symposium and in various clinical settings.
